stop it!

I haven't been very faithful to my blog; but no one is reading it, so that justifies my laziness. Or, perhaps I haven't been inspired or I am too busy. Some good excuse will come into play.
The President of the United States gave school children a speech today about staying in school. Great! Positive message. Where was this man when I was rebelling against my parents? It would have taken more than this man to keep me in school. I was smart, 19 and I knew more than anyone. Why do both parties sound like rebellious teenagers to me? They are smarter than anyone and no one can tell them otherwise. They have the American people at their fingertips. No one wants to listen to these little children that they are "babysitting". "They don't know any better, we must do it for them. If you're not with us, you're against us!!!"
Where do these politicians get off telling us to be quiet, or that we don't know what we are talking about? We put them in office. So, they say their quick thanks and move along to Washington DC. Then, they proceed to tell us what we want and need.
When we tell them to stop (either side), a lot of the time, they don't listen. There are a few that even change parties so that maybe they will be voted in again. (sneaky, sneaky!)
Frankly, neither side is innocent. So for one to blame the other is pure hypocrisy.
What makes the Republicans so much better than the Democrats and vice versa?
Absolutely nothing! The Democrats of today are not the same as they were during JFK's period. The Republicans are not the same as they were from the same time period.
I am independent. I claim no one and I have no twinge of guilt when I throw away a solicitation for campaign money or a national convention. Yet, I still feel because I am more conservative, that I am still being lumped into the Republican category. Why? The Republicans have been described (by a few) as crazy religious zealots. Or "assholes" (Whichever term tickles your fancy). Yet, I feel if you are gay and you want to get married, get friggin' married! There are better things that my tax money can pay for than this bickering. How about not bailing ANYONE out, Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama? During the Great Depression, there were no bailouts. We came through that stronger than before. Credit Cards were not introduced until the 1950s. How about, suck it up and save for what you want? Mr. Presidents...I made some poor financial decisions in my youth, where is my bail out?
Why should I be forced to pay for someone else's healthcare? Why should I be forced to pay for an illegal immigrant's health care? Car insurance is a requirement by the government (unless you live in New Hampshire, but if you leave the state and go to Maine for a vacation, you'd better have it!), I don't pay for my neighbor's car insurance. If they don't have it, they shouldn't be driving and if they are caught driving without it, they get a fine! If they get into an accident, they get a huge bill! To say that we are paying for those bills that have been skipped out on , so we may as well lump them all into one single payer health insurance and we are going to be paying for it through high taxes is absurd. That is a poor excuse. When did the American people become so lazy? Where did your pride go?
I have seen all of the facebook status updates that say:

"No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day."

You go to the hospital and you are still going to get care because of the oath that Doctors take. Getting sick is a fact of life. It is not someone else's responsibility to make sure that your bills are paid. The government runs medicare, medicaid, social security, post office...how well are these programs doing?

So, not everyone read my previous blog...

So, here is a question...
Why do people think it is OK to marginalize others' points of view. No one liked (I didn't at least) the Patriot Act (I understood the reason for it). Now, Democrats are demonizing people who are speaking out about things that the government is trying to implement. Why is that? Why is it that the government can have laws like the Freedom of Information Act and the White House is excluded in that? Why isn't the Executive Branch of the government included in that Act? Why is it all right for liberal-viewed Americans to protest, but not all right for conservative-viewed Americans?
People are un-American for speaking their opinions at town hall meetings? How can you say that Nancy Pelosi? We have spoken out from our oppressors and moved to another land to think the way we want to. How dare you.
Do not label me anything other than American.

Pride

I am not a socialist. I am not a Republican. I am not a Communist. I am not a Democrat. I am not a member of the Green party. I have my own thoughts and ideals. I am a single mother with two beautiful girls. I have an amazing boyfriend that I don't deserve. I have been eligible for state assistance, but have chosen to not participate. I have too much pride. If I have needed extra money, I have gotten a second job. In the beginning with my first child, I will admit, I had WIC. I was 20 years old and I was not really sure what I was doing. This probably lasted for two months.
I bought a house by myself. I didn't graduate from college. I fell short. I have many faults and mistakes that I am not proud of. But, I am proud to make my own way. I don't expect handouts. If I have to, I will work at MacDonald's.
I do not rely on the government and I am proud of that. I take care of my own. I do not expect others to feel pride the way I do. But what happened to our country? We were founded by proud people. People that wanted to stand alone. People that didn't want their government to take care of them. It would have been easier to run back to the queen.
I am not an advocate for the Right Wing or the Left Wing. I am in the middle if that can be labeled at all. I believe that we should have a small government that I control. I do not want a government that tries to control me. However, I want equal rights for all. So, what would you label me as?
I think that our previous President was right to be hard on terrorism. I don't think a lot of people would disagree with me on that when speaking about 9/11. To even think about the images that were being shown brings tears to my eyes. However, I didn't agree with him about making a larger government. I think it is great that earlier today two journalists were able to come home due to our current President's negotiating skills. I am a little nervous to know at what cost. I have not been happy with the things that I have been reading, seeing, hearing on various news sites, TV programs, articles about this current health care legislation. I am scared that there are people supposed to be representing us saying they don't have time to read the legislation. I will admit, I am very naive in the ways of government. this is really the first election that I have taken any interest in. Of course I have voted since I was 18, but this is the first time that I ever listened to anyone.
I voted for McCain. I didn't like it. I didn't necessarily support him. But I was terrified of the alternative. I am still scared.
I am not a socialist. I am not a Republican. I am not a Communist. I am not a Democrat. I am not a member of the Green party. I have my own thoughts and ideals.
I don't think that a government run health care plan will fix anything. I think it will create more unnecessary taxes that we really can't afford. Maybe instead of changing the regulations of our private healthcare, change and fix Medicare and Medicaid. Make it include people who have pre-existing conditions. People have SR-22 insurance for their vehicles. The medical sector is a for-profit business. If people need medical attention currently, they can get it. Yes, they will get a bill. But, I still have to pay for my insurance whether I use it or not. Most of the time, I don't use it. I am an insurance company's dream come true: Healthy family that pays for insurance, but never uses it. Another way needs to be found. To try to push through a bill on fear-mongering is not acceptable. Agree with it all or don't push it through.
I am for LEGAL immigration. My father and his parents and two brothers immigrated here legally from Germany. They had pride. They worked hard. They made sacrifices.
I am all for legal immigration. You want to come in? Do it the right way.
I don't want to pay for you or your health care. I have to worry about my own family.
That is what we would be doing in the current health care legislation. I could really care less if the President was born in the United States or not. That has no bearing on whether or not he loves his country. My father just became a US Citizen at the age of 62. He served in the army here. He loves and would have died for this country.
I am not a socialist. I am not a Republican. I am not a Communist. I am not a Democrat. I am not a member of the Green party. I have my own thoughts and ideals.
I could go on. At this point, I will let you swallow what I have written. You can agree, tear apart or ignore what I have spewed. Let me know your thoughts.
I will not accept handouts even though I qualify. I will not be someone's puppet or poster child even though I qualify.
I will.
